A terminal refers to a facility specifically designed to handle the loading, unloading, storage, and transfer of shipping containers between different modes of transportation, such as ships, trucks, and trains. These terminals are often strategically located near major ports or transportation hubs to facilitate efficient cargo movement.
At a container terminal, containers are typically organized, inspected, and prepared for onward transportation. This may involve activities such as sorting containers based on their destination, consolidating shipments, and conducting customs inspections. Terminal operators utilize specialized equipment such as cranes, forklifts, and straddle carriers to handle containers safely and efficiently.

The terminal personnel are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the transport document details concerning each container. This involves verifying that the information on the transport document matches the container being loaded onto the vessel. Once the container is successfully loaded onto the vessel, the terminal personnel generate an equipment loading report. This report serves as a formal record of the loading operation, documenting details such as the container number, vessel name, departure port, and other relevant information. By clicking the "create loading report" button or a similar action on their system, the terminal personnel initiate the generation of this report.
The equipment loading report serves as a crucial document in the issuance of the bill of lading. Terminal personnel input the necessary information into the report. Upon completing the required fields, terminal personnel submit the report by clicking the "submit". This action signifies the formal completion of the loading process and initiates the documentation flow necessary for the issuance of the bill of lading.
